Damien Siviero is a Sydney based diver and photographer,
with a passion for the underwater world. He currently works as an IT Enterprise Architect in the
financial services industry, though will happily switch careers if a National Geographic role became available... With over 16 years diving experience, Damien has dived throughout the Pacific region in locations such as Australia, PNG, Solomon Islands, Guam, Micronesia and New Zealand to name a few.
A further passion for photography has led him to aggressively pursue the art underwater, which has resulted in much of the photography you see on this site. In order to enhance the diving experience and manage decompression obligations on deeper dives, Damien dives on an Inspiration closed circuit rebreather and enjoys both recreational and technical diving.
Damien’s current photographic equipment includes a Canon 40D DSLR,
with an Aquatica alloy housing. Although he has several lenses, the Canon 60mm EF-S and Tokina 10-17mm are particular favorites underwater. Using dual Ikelite DS-125 strobes also ensures there is adequate light for both macro and wide angle shooting.
Closed circuit rebeathers are a type of scuba system that recycle exhaled gas,
which results in a near silent and bubble-less diving experience. Oxygen is dynamically blended
with another gas (termed the diluent) so that an optimum oxygen level is inspired at all times.
Diluents can include such gases such as air, or for deeper dives trimix. The net result of the
system is that dive times can be significantly extended compared with traditional open circuit
scuba systems.
